DESCRIPTION: EPW - "Breguet a Paris" marked to mvt, dial and case, quarter-hour repeater of Continental manufacture and not made by Abraham Louis Breguet, 55mm, 18K gold OF original case, signed gilt cuvette, white enamel dial with winding aperture at 2, KWKS, likely a verge escapement, gilt mvt with pierced and foliate scrolled two-footed balance bridge, s#843 within case. Some of the various Continental-made watches one sees bearing the Breguet name were indeed marketed, but not made by, the firm in the Revolutionary period, but others were spurious products meant to capitalize on the name. From the collection of Robert L. Ravel, M.D.
CONDITION: Mvt: NR, ticks temporarily with a twist but stopping frequently, repeat function is frequently accurate but with the notable exception of omission of the single hour strike between 1:00 and 1:59 and with the more minor issue that the hands are currently set about 7 minutes out of index with repeat function, overhaul needed, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, good gilt tone, some typical scattered fine scratches; dial with some flaking and a fracture surrounding winding aperture, scattered short scratches with the majority located near center, small edge flake near 2:30; fine mismatched hands, minute with some bend; case shows very little wear, mild dent to bezel at 4, few very small nicks to rear; tight bow; good domed glass crystal.
